Bejgli - Hungarian Poppy Seed and Walnut Rolls

Everyone has their own Christmas food traditions. Whether it's the national traditions or we make up our own ones, doesn't matter! What matters is that each year we make the same beloved foods and we try out some new ones. But what makes Christmas is the taste of Christmas and spending it with the people we love the most! So, in Hungary there are very few houses now that don't have some of these rolls. They're that Christmas-y around here. The most popular fillings are the poppy seed and the walnut ones. To tell the truth, we rarely have these ones.  My personal favorite is the one with sweet ricotta cheese. Oh my, it is sooo good! Not many like it as much as I do, but it means more for me! Which is not the best idea but oh well, it's December and you know what I think of diet and December. They just simply don't go together :D There will be plenty of time to shred those love handles starting in January :P But back to the point. We have rolls filled w...

Ischler Cookies

No wonder all the Christmas songs are singing this is the best time of the year! Sure, summer and spring win the season competition but December really is the coziest and merriest month of all! If you have luck, it's all white outside, then you can listen to the extra sexy voice of Michael Buble while he's singing it's a holly jolly Christmas and you can make and then sample allllll the Xmas cookies you will be making for the holidays! No guilt included! Because how on earth would you know if a recipe is good? Even if you've made it hundreds of times, what if this year the recipe has expired? You just MUST try it out and see for yourself! Right?  So, I dived myself into searching for the perfect cookie recipes. Well, there are too many. And too much sampling would mean way too small clothes, as well. So after debating whether it's worth it I just stuck to my favorite Christmas cookie recipe! If you've never had one of these linzer cookie sandwiches th...

Nutella stuffed Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Pardon me for posting such bad quality photos but I don't have the camera with me :( But since I happened to make the BEST cookies ever, I just couldn't let it go by and not post it on my blog. I mean, seriously. If you make cookies that absolutely have the best consistency ever, are stuffed with chocolate and nutella... It's just not an option to not share it with the world! If people didn't think I am completely nuts, then I would definitely shout it out that YAAAY I finally found the best of the best recipe!!  Just look at it. Nutella is oozing out of a perfectly chewy cookie. It is something you must make for yourself to know what I'm talking about. I sprinkled some salt on top so the sweet and salty combination sends your taste buds to heaven. And I'm not even exaggerating! I made a half batch of NYT cookies. They were fine. But they don't even compare to these lovelies! So now you have it. Run to your kitchen, or the closest grocery store ...

The perfect Fried Chicken

Fried chicken is one of my most favorite foods of all time! Even when I was a vegetarian I would gladly sin for fried chicken. So it comes naturally that I do not eat a bad, tasteless, dry fried chicken. If I eat something this indulgent then it'd better be extra amazing! My favorite way to make it is to season the chicken with either Italian or simply some grilled chicken seasoning. That's the key. If it's not seasoned well, it won't taste as good! It's also important to watch out with the frying. The oil should be medium hot when you place the chicken in it. Not too hot because it will burn and not too cold because it will make the chicken absorb a lot of oil. Also, you have to be careful how long you fry it to get that juicy consistency. That's my favorite! If you leave the chicken in the pan for too long, it will dry it out. So fried chicken can be a bit tricky but still, it's really easy! I love to have it with some mashed potatoes and a salad. Tha...
